Here’s a one-minute highlight reel of James A. Leach, Hoke County Commission Chairman, in action as he tosses a pair of constituents out of a public meeting in May. The one-minute clip is must-see TV before voting in November. It’s the first in our series of highlight reels currently being considered for syndication by the communist channel. When taxpayers question why the Hoke County went deep into its playbook to keep public records secret, the deputy goes in motion toward the camera, then sends two residents to the locker room (OK, lobby, but you get the gist).
No yellow flag hit the playing field, although red ones should fly among voters. Despite Leach overstaying his 32-year position on the Hoke County Commission—and plenty of rookies eager to end the team’s losing record—he’s relying on the cult following he’s attracted since the Clinton Administration to buoy his re-election bid.
Some of the audio wasn’t captured by the public domain video published on the county website (here’s a link if you want to suffer through the amateur stuff). Fortunately, the alert team at The News-Journal heard the commotion, including Leach’s demeaning comment, “Exactly sweetheart,” aimed at a woman being escorted out of the room.
Here’s a portion of that recording made by the paper’s reporter with Leach saying, “Exactly sweetheart. If you understood the facts, you’d understand Hoke County, but you don’t.” The woman is a longtime resident who doesn’t deserve that kind of arrogant response.
That lack of respect is considered a personal foul in most stadiums, but then, the same Hoke County Commissioners have a decades-long home-field advantage.
And don’t forget to get your “Fire Leach ‘24” T-shirts while they last.
